About Your Gemologist
GIA Graduate Gemologist, Julia Malaghan founded JM Appraisal Lab in 2007 to offer consultations for fine jewelry establishments and individuals throughout Florida.
Julia Malaghan has been fascinated with gems and jewelry since she was a little kid growing up. Most of her life, she was able to see fine and rare gems of the world– from going to Mikimoto Farms in Japan, to seeing the Royal crown jewels in London. Julia fell in love with rare gems, such as spinel, which are in the crown jewels. At a young age Julia started collecting gems, and it soon became more than a hobby!
At the age of fifteen, Julia joined the local gem society and learned to cut gemstones. By 18 Julia had worked in a jewelry store and learned to repair and make jewelry. Julia’s love for gemstones even lead her to Australia to the opal mines. Her dream was to attend GIA (The Gemological Institute of America) which she did attend, graduating in 2002. Julia spent one year at the GIA at the Carlsbad California campus and started a colored stone wholesale company that she managed for 7 years before starting JM Appraisal Lab, doing appraising. She also attended ISA International Society of Appraising in 2003 and is now a member of the national jewelers’ appraisal society. She is also the Treasurer of the GIA alumni in the Caribbean and Vice President of the Gemological Education Foundation in the Caribbean.
We use only cutting edge equipment and we pride ourselves on our expert knowledge of diamond and gemstone identification and grading. JM Appraisal Lab Services is committed to delivering personalized service with exceptional results.
